OPN Family Group - March Meeting

From one parent to another, advice on helping your son or daughter transition to independent living is easy: stop the hand-holding. It's time to teach your loved one the ropes of everyday living. Have a heart-to-heart with your young adult and take an inventory of the skills they have (and need). Don't assume that since they've been watching you do laundry their entire life they magically know how to do it themselves. Encourage self-advocacy skills. Teach money management skills. This month's class includes tips from our current parents to our incoming parents on how to successfully ease your son or daughter into living under their own roof instead of under yours. In addition to sharing some of their hard-earned wisdom, parents of our current Friendship House residents will answer questions from the parents of incoming residents. The Family group is for family members whose loved ones either reside at one of our Friendship Houses or are on the waiting list to move into one of the houses. They meet on Zoom from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Contact Mary Bers for more information. The group meets next on May 3.
