Andrew Maraniss’s best-selling book Strong Inside is the untold story of Perry Wallace, who in 1966 enrolled at Vanderbilt University and became the first African-American basketball player in the Southeastern Conference. It is the story of a trailblazing athlete, but also the story of civil rights and race in America. His newest book, Games of Deception, was released November 5, 2019, and is the true story of the first U.S. Olympic basketball team, which competed at the 1936 Summer Games in Nazi Germany. Andrew is a Visiting Author at Vanderbilt University Athletics and a contributor to ESPN's TheUndefeated.com. Our class members said they wanted to meet an author, and Andrew, a Vanderbilt alumnus and Brentwood resident, graciously said yes!
