Life Skills Class: The World Around Us

Some of us have had the privilege of traveling or living overseas. Others of us have lived in the same city most of our life. Within our Friendship House community, the world literally comes to Nashville. Many of our graduate student residents traveled a long distance to study at Vanderbilt; they have come from a dozen countries, including China, Estonia, Jamaica, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan. How much richer our lives are for having such a diverse group make up our Friendship House population. Betse Youd Amador, recently retired as a middle school teacher at Los Angeles Unified School District where she focused on world history. She also spent a good bit of time overseas when she was growing up — in Indonesia, Pakistan and Switzerland. Betse will be joining us from southern California to talk about how we fit in this big world around us.
